Finch (2191M) is a seven-year-old captive born wolf released in the Milltail Pack’s territory.

Finch lived his entire captive life at Wolf Haven International, a sanctuary near Tacoma, Washington. 

In October 2023, Finch was transferred to the Red Wolf Recovery Area with the hope that he would eventually mate with Uta (2225F). P

Finch was gradually introduced to the Milltail pack through an acclimation pen placed in the Milltail pack’s territory. The acclimation pen is a large fenced enclosure. Soon after 2191M’s pen was placed in their territory,  Milltail yearlings and pups began interacting with Finch through the fence. However, Uta showed little interest.

So one of Uta’s female yearlings was placed in the acclimation pen with Finch—not to breed with him, but to entice Uta to visit and to help him gain acceptance into the pack. It seems to have worked. Pam began visiting the pen more frequently.

In January 2024, both Finch and Uta’s daughter were released from the acclimation pen. Uta and Finch eventually bred and had eight pups in 2024.
